— Who We Are —
A Community of Crafters, Creators + Collectors
Schoolhouse Electric was founded by Brian Faherty in
2003 following his discovery of a long-lost collection
of cast-iron glass shade molds in an abandoned warehouse.
After carefully restoring them back into production,
the hard-working team at Schoolhouse has continued to
grow every year since. Together we're dedicated to the
preservation of American manufacturing, thoughtful
living and purposeful design.
— Our Inspiration —
Want better, not more
Our inspiration comes from an innate affection
for pieces with a past and the belief that something
worth owning now is worth owning forever. In mixing
eras and styles, with an ever-present focus on quality,
we encourage people to create collections that reflect
their own unique lives while embracing quirks and
— What We Do —
Seek products that have stories to tell
From iconic lighting and furniture to analog clocks,
art and domestic utility goods, our aim is to create
the next generation of heirlooms. Along with our own
Schoolhouse originals, we are proud to collaborate
with other talented makers, artists and craftspeople
outside our walls to offer an eclectic assortment of
quality, one-of-a-kind goods with stories of their own.
— Our Factory —
115 year-old warehouse turned factory + retail space
The heart of Schoolhouse lives in Portland, Oregon inside
an over-century-old brick factory building. Here we
manufacture our lighting and other wares; we design our
collections; we ship our finished creations and most
importantly, we dream of what’s next while working
collectively to create something bigger than ourselves.
Many hands work in many ways to bring each of our products
to life, all under this very same roof.
— Our Stores —
Two locations, each as distinct as the city that houses them
Slow down and soak up design inspiration in our sprawling
Portland space housed on the 1st floor of our factory
building and headquarters. Secret spots and lounge areas
